Michael T. Hopkins has been practicing law in New York since 1977. Mr. Hopkins attended St. John’s University, receiving his Bachelor’s degree in 1971 and law degree in 1976. Mr. Hopkins is a founding member of the firm.
Mr. Hopkins served as a Deputy Nassau County Attorney from 1976 to 1983 assigned to the municipal law, medical malpractice and major litigation divisions. Mr. Hopkins served as Village Attorney for the Village of Plandome Manor from 1996 to 2007 and as the Village Attorney for Valley Stream from 1985-91, its litigation counsel from 1995 to date and once again as Village Attorney from 2011 to date.
Mr. Hopkins is a trial attorney who typically handles substantial personal injury and Medical/Dental Malpractice claims. Specializing in all aspects of municipal and civil litigation, including contact disputes, civil rights actions and all tort cases, for plaintiffs as well as for defendants, Mr. Hopkins brings a unique “insider” perspective from his years handling municipal and defense litigation. Remarkably, he also has an extensive background in zoning and land use regulation developed over the many years of his serving as counsel to the Villages of Valley Stream and Plandome Manor.
Mr. Hopkins is admitted to the New York State Bar, the United States District Court, Eastern and Southern Districts of New York , the United States Court of Appeals, Second Circuit and the United States Supreme Court.
